What Is Ujamaa? The Members’ Services Directory — Show Your Interest
Ujamaa, the Members’ Services Directory of The Ethiopian World Federation, Incorporated: what it is, what the Constitution says, how to show your interest.
Ujamaa is the Members’ Services Directory of The Ethiopian World Federation, Incorporated. It is a project presented to the International Executive Council, and it is being prepared now. Before it opens, we invite every member to show their interest.
What is Ujamaa?
Ujamaa is a Swahili word often translated as “familyhood.” It is also known as the principle of cooperative economics: building our own businesses and supporting one another, so that our communities grow stronger together.
On tewfinc.org, Ujamaa will be a directory of the services offered by members of the Federation: farmers and builders, teachers and caterers, designers, health professionals, webmasters, wedding planners and many more.
Verified by the Local. Every listing is confirmed by the member’s Local before it is published.
Direct contact. Clients reach the member directly, using the contact details the member chooses to show.
Worldwide. Services in Africa, the Caribbean, the Americas, Europe, Asia and Australasia, and online.
On your Local’s page. Each Local page will show the services of its own members.
The Federation connects members and clients; prices and payment are agreed directly between them.
Why Ujamaa?
Our members have skills, trades and businesses, but they are often spread across countries and Locals that do not know one another. A member in Ghana may need a translator; a family in Martinique may look for a caterer; a young person may need a tutor. Ujamaa makes it easy to find a member first.
Every service found through Ujamaa strengthens a member, a family and a Local. It turns solidarity into everyday cooperation, and it helps the Federation build its own economic strength.
Rooted in our Constitution
Article 1, Section 2 of our Constitution sets out the aims of the Federation. Among them:
To promote and stimulate interest among its members in the business world, and to cultivate a spirit of international goodwill.||Article 1, Section 2(d) · paraphrased from the French edition of the Constitution
To promote friendly interest among its members, to develop a fraternal spirit among them, and to encourage them to render voluntary aid and assistance to one another at all times.||Article 1, Section 2(e) · paraphrased from the French edition of the Constitution
Ujamaa puts these aims into practice with the tools of today.
